BACKGROUND:

Woodward Group has provided ongoing maintenance work and compliance testing activity at Bombardier’s Derby site for several years. The Crossrail Assembly Line project centred around the transformation of two assembly bays, refurbished to suit the bespoke requirements of the Crossrail carriages.

Careful and scoping planning was critical for the project to run smoothly.
This project is the largest installation project undertaken by Woodward Group for Bombardier.

SOLUTION & OUTCOMES:

Our team worked with Bombardier’s multi-disciplinary team of engineers and contractors on the highly prestigious Crossrail project.

The majority of the installation work was carried out using Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) and carried out by our highly qualified and IPAF accredited employees.

The project began with the strip-out of the existing installation, whilst maintaining the power supply to the equipment to minimise disruption to production, followed by:

  • Installation of 400A Zucchini bus-bar trunking and high level containment
  • High level work including a new Eaton LED lighting scheme delivering an average of 500LUX
  • Emergency lighting scheme compliant to BS5266:2016
  • Data cabling
  • Installation of heating supplies
  • Low-level work consisted of low and extra voltage distribution boards, and feeding equipment for the assembly lines.

All aspects of the project were completed within budget and on time, with final testing and commissioning revealing no issues or alterations. The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NECEIC) selected the project for audit as part of its annual inspection of Woodward Group, and confirmed no non-conformities.
