Government increases EV charger grants from April 2026

From 1 April 2026, the UK Government has announced a significant boost to electric vehicle (EV) charging grants, making it more affordable than ever for households and businesses to install charge points.

Grant funding will increase by over 40%, rising from £350 to up to £500 per charge point. This uplift applies to a wide range of users, including renters, flat owners, residential landlords, households without off-street parking, and businesses.

Alongside the increased funding, the Government is also simplifying the grant system. The number of available schemes will be reduced from eight to five, making it easier to understand eligibility and access the right support.

What’s changing?

From April 2026, the updated scheme will include grants of up to £500 per charge point (previously £350) for:

  • Renters and flat owners
  • Residential landlords
  • Households with on-street parking
  • Businesses

Schools will now be eligible for grants of up to £2,000 per socket, building on thousands of installations already delivered across the UK.

These changes are designed to accelerate EV adoption by reducing upfront costs and removing barriers to installation.
